deep thoughts by Ava

I found the family to be generic; pretty and intelligent mother, hardheaded and remorseful father, socially awkward and intelligent teenage daughter, rebellious and brave teenage son and let us not forget the adorable third child!

It’s a cookie cutter family drama with an interesting backdrop, but the backdrop isn’t nearly enough to hold the audience’s attention if the characters are so damn boring. The only moments that felt remotely real were between the father and the youngest child he’s trying to reconnect with.

The fact that some critics compared this show to LOST confounds me. LOST grabbed your focus and attention from the first episode and all the characters we diverse and interesting. Terra Nova lacks that polish and realism.
I plan to tune in next week, but if the only interesting character remains to be Mira, who had a total of five minutes of screen time, I might have to call this show a bust and move on. Here’s to hoping though!

I have to agree. It's just another family based drama with a little set embroidery to make it different, with a population calculated to appeal to as many of the major demographics as possible.

None of that matters much to anyone who tuned in because: dinosaurs. And if the whole season's mystery is going to circle around someone trying to control the present from 85 million years in the past? Seriously? *sigh*

I would have been much happier if they'd left the cave 'drawings' a mystery because that was the only thing I I found interesting in this first episode. It made me curious and the aspect of it being an alternate time line opened the door to all sorts of things and then they just slammed it and made it boring.

Perhaps it'll get better. I'm leaning towards no though.

My problems with the show, exactly!! Eh, I'll probably tune in again next week just to see if they can manage to make it a little more interesting, but i don't see myself sticking around with this show. *pouts* There were dinosaurs and the show isn't the least bit exciting. *pouts again*

If they gear it more towards SciFi I'll be interested and continue to tune in, but if they make it a generic family drama I shall have to move on. It has potential to be great, but it's no 'Falling Skies.'
