real life; it happens
Sep. 24th, 2012 08:04 pmThe family has set a date for when all the kids are getting tattoos in memory of my dad. I’m not sure if it’s ironic or not that my dad disliked tattoos. :) Apparently ink!love skips a generation. 11/9 is our date (we’ve already made the appointment with my cousin who’s a tattoo artist and it feels right to keep it in the family) and it would have been my dad’s 67th birthday and the following day my sister, her husband and I are doing a 5K run for the charity ‘Free to Breathe.’ My mom and niece will be joining us for the 1 mile memorial walk afterwards and I’ll probably collapse sometime after that.
The best friend who will be heading into her third trimester is also coming along (she’s not sure if she’s going for the 5K or the 1 mile, but either way I appreciate the support) and my work is sponsoring me and raising money throughout the month of October for me to donate. We lost a coworker to lung cancer a few months before my dad passed.
Our team name is ‘Heavy Traffic’ in honor of one of my dad’s dad’isms (“Quiet! I’m driving in heavy traffic.”) and it was the BF that came up with the name. :)
