Stars
She still hears them, the stars. They used to whisper and mummer, filling her head with delicate songs and lights that made her laugh and spin to a tune only they knew, she and the stars—but that was before.
Before the world exploded with light and turned to ash. Before the metal came, metal that thought and schemed and skewered humanity. Metal that was filled with nothing. Not a spark, not a glimmer. They were the black and the demons hid.
Drusilla hid.
She didn’t know this new world. She didn’t like.
The stars didn’t sing now—they screamed.
