My sister’s favorite story of my dad takes place in Michigan when my father was a police officer. My dad worked nights as a cop which meant he left for work while the kids were still in school and didn’t come home until they were fast asleep.

Well to make up for this schedule mishap my dad would ‘tuck in’ my sister and brother for bed each night by pulling his squad car up the driveway. He’d wait for my mom to bring the kids to the front door and then he’d flood the front of the house with his search light and my sister and brother would cheer, usually shouting about their love for my father and whatnot before he’d drive away.

My sister and brother knew my father loved them because he blinded them each night before bed.

Now that’s parenting.

Feel free to giggle, but I stand the sentiment. My father did something every night that engaged his children and made them happy when he couldn't physically be there. That's parenting in my book.
